If I am being completely honest, I am a serious makeup hoarder. I just love makeup. At a young age wearing makeup along with the bright red lipstick for dance was one of my favorite things. Around the age of ten, I started playing with eye shadow and sneaking various products out of my mom's Mary Kay stock. For some reason I would always gravitate towards blue and purple eye shadow, which I thought was beautiful, though it made me look like I had a bad fight on the playground. It was not until my freshman year of high school though that I actually wore full on makeup out in public and to school. Previously I would throw on some mascara, maybe some bronzer and call it a day. For some reason my freshman year I did a complete one-eighty and never looked back. So after years of swatching and playing in any makeup I could get my hands on I have found what I personally love in my makeup products. My current makeup routine looks a little like this...
Prepping the Face
I absolutely love this stuff. It is by far the most expensive thing on my vanity (a gift from my grandmother), which you can get in a smaller less expensive size. No moisturizer, or primer is better for my combo skin. I apply it with the prep brush from my Real Techniques Prep + Prime set.
Beware, if you hate the feeling of silicon you will want to stay clear of this product. I actually love that feeling. This primer erases your pores in minutes and it is a beautiful thing.
All About That Base
Yes, I am super high maintenance and mix a foundation and BB cream. I mix the shade light/medium of Maybelline's bb cream with soft ivory in the Photo Focus foundation. The mix of the two formulas just seems to sit well on my skin, especially in the spring and summer time.
When I was in my first years of high school my skin was super oily and this concealer seemed to be the only thing that would stay on my face. I love taking a small pencil concealer brush (from this set) and pin point concealing different discolorations in my face. I use the shade SC-3 and the salmon color works great for canceling out any blue under my eyes.
A newer addition to the routine is this powder duo. The powders go on beautifully, and are super pigmented. A little goes a long way! I only apply the banana powder under the eyes, and very lightly in the center of my forehead and chin.
The transparent shade is perfect for setting all over the face, and does not get cakey on my face.
When setting my whole face, this brush is the way to go. It is so soft, and fluffy it does the job just right.
I tried to jump on the sponge bandwagon many times but nothing compares to applying foundation or setting the under the eye with a dense kabuki brush. This set from Shop Miss A is amazing, and you cannot beat the price.
Give Me Some Color
For a limited time you can buy the palette pictured at Walmart, but the whole collection is absolutely wonderful. There are only a few other bronzers, blushes, and highlights I love more than the ones in this collection. I love using them on the eyes as well. In the summer I pop some bronzer in the crease with my favorite crease brush, and highlighter on the lid with a flat shader and I am ready to go.
While I have tried it for foundation, I find that this brush is the perfect bronzer brush. It blends the powder so nicely across my cheeks and along the hairline. The size is also great for bronzing the neck.
Hands down this is my favorite mascara. Whether I pick up the original or extensions formula, nothing lengthens and separates my lashes like this mascara does.
Finish It Up
These two products are like brow magic for my blonde eyebrows. I go through brow products so fast so when I found this combo, which together is under $5, and work great together I was all in.
I have always struggled to find lip products I really love, which is why most days I settle for Maybelline's Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm. Though for those days I want a little more color, I go for this lip combo.
Both of these sprays work wonderfully and I often interchange them when doing my makeup. Due to the higher price of Fix+ I often use it only to wet shadows and highlighters, and use Wet N Wild all over my face.
Hope this post inspires you to try some new products and find makeup that you truly love and will put to use on a day to day basis!
